Barbara's Approach to Community Safety

Barbara believes that effective community safety requires:

  • Collaboration between residents, businesses, community organisations, and government agencies
  • Evidence-based approaches that address the root causes of crime and antisocial behaviour
  • Investment in prevention and early intervention programmes
  • Support for vulnerable community members
  • Appropriate resources for emergency services and first responders

Current Safety Initiatives

Barbara is currently advocating for:

  • Increased funding for community-based crime prevention programmes
  • Better lighting and safety infrastructure in public spaces
  • Support for Neighbourhood Watch and community safety networks
  • Improved coordination between police and community services
  • Enhanced emergency preparedness for natural disasters and other crises

Supporting Vulnerable Community Members

Barbara recognises that safety concerns affect different community members in different ways. She is working to address the specific safety needs of:

  • Women and children experiencing domestic and family violence
  • Older residents concerned about personal safety and scams
  • Young people at risk of involvement in antisocial behaviour
  • People experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse communities

Community Engagement

Barbara regularly engages with community members and organisations to understand safety concerns and develop appropriate responses. This includes:

  • Working with local police and emergency services
  • Supporting community-led safety initiatives
  • Advocating for resources to address identified safety issues
  • Providing information about available safety services and support

If you have concerns about safety in your neighbourhood or would like to get involved in community safety initiatives, please contact Barbara's office below.
