Enrol to Vote

Voting is a fundamental right and responsibility in our democracy. Dr. Barbara O'Shea's office can assist you with enrolling to vote or updating your electoral details.

Enrolling to vote ensures that you have a say in who represents you at all levels of government. In Australia, voting is compulsory for citizens aged 18 and over.

1

Check Your Eligibility

You are eligible to enrol to vote if you:

  • Are an Australian citizen (or a British subject who was on the Commonwealth electoral roll on 25 January 1984)
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have lived at your current address for at least one month

You can enrol when you're 16 or 17, but you won't be able to vote until you turn 18.

2

Prepare Your Identification

To enrol, you'll need one of the following:

  • Your driver's license number
  • Your Australian passport number
  • Have someone who is already enrolled confirm your identity
3

Enrol Online

The easiest way to enrol is through the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) website:

Enrol to Vote Online

The online form takes about 5-10 minutes to complete.

4

Paper Enrolment

If you prefer to use a paper form:

  • Download and print the form from the AEC website
  • Visit any AEC office, post office, or our electorate office to collect a form
  • Complete the form and return it to the AEC
5

Update Your Details

If you've already enrolled but need to update your details (e.g., if you've moved or changed your name), you can:

  • Update your details online at the AEC website
  • Complete a new paper form
